В ночь на 6 августа на стадионе «Маракана» в бразильском Рио-де-Жанейро состоялась церемония открытия XXXI летних Олимпийских игр.

Огонь зажег бразильский марафонец Вандерлей Кордейру, передает Lenta.ru.

Изначально планировалось, что олимпийский огонь зажжет бывший футболист бразильской сборной Пеле. С соответствующей просьбой к нему обратилисьпрезидент Международного олимпийского комитета (МОК) Томас Бах и глава Олимпийского комитета Бразилии Карлос Артур Нузман. Однако Пеле заявил, что не сможет присутствовать на церемонии по состоянию здоровья.

После этого высказывались предположения, что огонь вместо Пеле зажжет бывший бразильский теннисист Густаво Куэртен.

Около 23:00 по местному времени (06:00 по ереванскому) завершился парад национальных спортивных команд. По арене прошли более 12 тысяч спортсменов из 207 стран, в том числе Армении. Шествие замыкала команда Бразилии, хозяйки Игр. Затем временно исполняющий обязанности президента Бразилии Мишел Темер объявил Игры открытыми.

Олимпийские игры в Рио-де-Жанейро продлятся до 21 августа.
